Memorial Day May 25, 2026.    Veteran and Auxiliary members folded American Flags which were at cemetery headstones to pass out during the Memorial Day parades in Ansonia and Derby-Shelton.  The flags were accompanied with a card stating

"This American Flag was flown over the grave of a U.S. Military Veteran who served to keep us free.

Please keep it in a prominent place, and say a simple prayer of thanks."

Post 1562 proudly hosted the Naval Sea Cadet Barque Eagle Division (Plainville, CT) who marched with us in the Derby-Shelton Memorial Day Parade.  The pouring rain stopped just before the 9:00 AM kickoff so no rain fell during the parade!  Later, the Cadets conducted a U.S. Flag Retirement Ceremony in the Post parking lot.  Old and tattered U.S. flags may be dropped off at Post 1562 to be respectfully retired.  Thank you to the Sea Cadets and their families who travel from various locations in Connecticut early in the morning hours to make muster at the Post for our Memorial Day events.... And the Wreaths Across America program in December!

Recent Gallery is from March 29, 2025: a presentation of WWI facts and diorama by

Reghan Winslow, a 4th grade student from Beecher Road School in Woodbridge.  Reghan donated

her project to the Catholic War Veterans because it was founded by a WWI chaplain, Msgr Higgins.
